Sep 11, 2000 PulseMD(TM), the industry's first Internet-based medical transaction service provider, today announced the addition of three health care industry experts to the company's Medical Advisory Board. Debra Rheinisch will provide expertise in the area of physician practice financial management, P. Thomas Hirsch will help guide pulseMD's laboratory service offering developments and Dr. Robert Filuk will provide insight into the specialized needs of large group practices.
The company's subscription-based Clinical Order Management Services enable physicians to prescribe medications, capture patient charges and transfer the charge codes directly into popular practice management systems from wherever they interact with patients - in the exam room, on rounds or on call. The three new medical advisors will assist as pulseMD expands upon their successful introduction of services and methodologies for improving profitability for private practice physicians.
"From the very beginning, pulseMD has relied on the participation of physicians, pharmacists, medical office administrators and other health care experts to guide the development of our services," said Dr. Calvin Chao, director of medical affairs at pulseMD. "The only way to help private physician practices become more financially successful is by truly understanding and responding to their needs. Our Medical Advisory Board is indispensable as we formulate strategies and develop our service offerings."
Ms. Rheinisch is the founder and president of Rheinisch Medical Management and is considered one of the top leaders and visionaries in health care practice management today. Her 20 years in the industry has focused extensively on financial and operational management within physician practices and medical groups. Rheinisch Medical Management specializes in billing, coding, reimbursement, and practice management operational efficiency.
"When I first saw a demonstration of how the pulseMD Clinical Transaction Management Services could help private physician practices reduce costs, I realized that someone had finally heard my calls for improving practice profitability and efficiency," said Debra Rheinisch. "I'm excited to contribute to the evolution of the pulseMD services and am convinced that physician practices across the country will benefit."
Mr. Hirsch has been president and chief executive officer of Path Lab since June of 1984. Path Lab is the second largest laboratory in New England. The laboratory has been an industry leader in working with institutions and developing innovative solutions to enhance lab performance. Path Lab manages six hospital laboratories, three major physician office labs, and has a joint venture with New York University Medical Center.
"I have been interested in finding more cost-effective ways for physicians to place lab orders. I firmly believe such a capability must be part of an overall process for handling transactions in the physician's office in order for it to gain adoption," stated Tom Hirsch. "After seeing how pulseMD has successfully integrated a variety of services into a single environment, I'm confident we can have the same positive impact connecting physicians with laboratories."
Robert Filuk, MD, is managed care medical director at San Jose Medical Group and associate professor of medicine at Stanford University. Dr. Filuk participates on advisory boards for Merck Pharmaceuticals and Genentech, Inc. and is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine.
In addition, Dr. Filuk possesses a wealth of experience in physician group management in a managed care setting. Having established five disease state management programs and a hospitalist program, his work contributed to winning the Eureka State Quality Award for San Jose Medical Group in 1996.
"One of the attributes that I saw immediately in the pulseMD services was their adaptability," said Dr. Robert Filuk. "With slight adjustments, the pulseMD services can be customized to serve physicians in group practice settings in addition to those in private practice. One of my goals is to help pulseMD reach a larger audience of users."
PulseMD recently announced the availability of their Clinical Order Management Services. Physicians in Northern California can sign up for the Services immediately, by going to the pulseMD web site, www.pulsemd.com or by calling the company at 877-PULSE01. The services will roll out to a nationwide audience over the coming months.
About pulseMD
PulseMD Corporation is the first Internet-based medical transaction service provider to maximize profitability for private practice physicians while reducing the overall cost of administering health care. The company's subscription-based services address the mounting struggles of private-practice medicine by helping physicians recover lost revenues, reduce administrative overhead and increase office efficiency. PulseMD's services automate physician orders and leverage the Internet to directly connect physicians at the point of care with ancillary health care providers to complete clinical transactions. Unlike many e-health Web sites and ASP-based medical software service models that put patient information on the Web, pulseMD's unique offerings protect patient privacy by storing electronic patient information in the physician's office. The company, headquartered in Campbell, Calif., maintains a Web site at www.pulsemd.com.
