Medillac is situated in the beautiful, rolling countryside of the south Charente, close to the borders of the Dordogne. This part of France boasts the longest hours of sunshine and the second highest temperatures. It is about a day’s drive from the channel ports and 50 miles from Bordeaux’s international airport. The nearest little town of Chalais, just 5 minutes away, is dominated by it’s beautiful floodlit 13th Century Chateau. The town offers a very large bustling market on Mondays. Here you can enjoy the French rural atmosphere and choose at your leisure from the excellent selection of fruit, vegetables, fish and cheese. Chalais also has all the basic amenities, i.e. Doctor, Garage, Supermarket, Restaurants, Bars and, of course, several boulangeries. The cottage is a typical Charentaise farmhouse which has been carefully restored to provide bright, sunny and comfortable accommodation without losing any of it’s original charm. The first floor bedrooms have been created in what used to be the old grain store and hayloft. There are two double bedrooms, both having an adjoining twin room off. The bedrooms comfortably sleep two families of four. There is also a put-u-up sofa downstairs and a cot can be provided on request. All bedrooms have exposed beams and are attractively furnished. There is an additional family sized shower room and WC on the ground floor. Downstairs there is a fully equipped kitchen and dining room which has its own original bread-oven and French doors leading onto the patio with barbeque and garden furniture. Beyond the private terrace is the children’s play area, within safe watching distance and beyond that , wonderful views to enjoy at breakfast, lunch and sunset. The sitting room with its beautiful stone fireplace has plenty of easy chairs, a television and video, and lots of books and games.

Benzoin is a balsamic resin, the dried exudation from the pierced bark of Styrax Tree in Sumatra-Indonesia. As a gum from this species hardens, it becomes a pale yellowish color. Sumatera Benzoin, have a strong storax like odour, and contain cinamic acid.

Because of its fragrant odour, it is used in perfume and sometimes in incense. Benzoin is well liked for its anti catarak and expectorant properties as well as its powerful skin healing effects. It also a warming oil, making it useful for painful joints and poor circulation, stimulates the production of urine (diuretic). It is used to fight leucorrhoea and yeast infection. Helps digestion, calms the digestive tract and alleviates flatulence, eases nervous tension, stress and anxiety, helps to overcome depression and restore confidence.
