Inverbrough Fishing Cottage

The cottage was the farmhouse of the small hill farm of Upper Inverbrough. It has been extensively rebuilt and refurbished to give a high standard of modern convenience. It is situated on a bend of the River Findhorn with extensive views up and down the river. It stands on top of a bank within an easy cast of the river and is about a mile from the centre of the village.

Location Tomatin is situated on the main road (A9) about 16 miles South of Inverness. It is about 2½ hours from Edinburgh by road and less than ½ hour from Inverness. The airport is about ½ hour away and Aviemore, Carrbridge and Inverness railway stations are within easy reach. Local Information Tomatin is a small village with a shop, post office, three churches and the worlds largest malt whisky distillery! It is well placed for touring in the Highlands; Loch Ness, Culloden Battlefield, the whisky trail, Fort George, Cawdor and many other Castles, are some of the varied and interesting attractions within easy reach. There is plenty of wildlife about and in their season you stand a fair chance of seeing an osprey from the cottage itself. Activities nearby include walking, climbing in the Cairngorms, pony trekking, swimming, observing wildlife, and golf at many fine courses such as Dornoch and Nairn or the small 9 hole course at Carrbridge. A new opportunity is afforded by the boats offering dolphin watching in the Moray Firth. The cottage The cottage consists of a comfortable sitting room with open fire, dining room and small well equipped kitchen, two bedrooms with twin beds and a bathroom with bath and shower. The sitting room, dining room,and bedrooms have outstanding views over the river. Crockery, glass, cutlery, kitchen utensils, bedding, linen and towels are supplied for four. We have aimed at providing a high level of comfort; dishwasher, washing machine, electric blankets, colour television, deepfreeze and refridgerator. There is a telephone. The cottage is situated right in the middle of the farm and the grazing is let. There are generally a lot of sheep and possibly cattle and horses about and indeed the sheep do come right up to the door. We welcome well behaved dogs that are safe with animals but regret that no other dogs are allowed. Naturally the responsibility for the dog is the owner's. Due to the outstanding location of the cottage above the river we would not recommend it for small children who might fall in.

Fishing The salmon and grilse catch for the last five years was as follows: 1995 1996 1997 1998 1999 April 0 2 4 0 0 May 16 3 4 3 7 June 6 2 8 6 1 July 4 8 1 3 1 August 9 2 0 3 0 September 29 1 13 4 24 Total 64 18 30 19 33 In October 1999 the water baliff electro-fished a 40lb fish from the top pool! (see Trout and Salmon Jan 2000) August has generally been a good month unless the grilse stick further down the river, (8 year average is over 7 fish/month). There were plenty grilse in the river in 1997 and 1998 but they got stuck at Lethen and Glenferness half way down the river. In 1999 they remained at sea until September. The beat is single bank only. It is about three quarters of a mile long and there is a deep holding pool right at the cottage. The beat is limited to two rods. A pair of thigh-waders is worth bringing but I usually fish in wellies or even shoes. The salmon usually arrive in May, depending on the water level the grilse usually start running by July. There are virtually no seatrout as they find it difficult to get over the obstacles downstream. (It's worth a taking a trip to see the Sluie Gorge.) The River Board policy is fly only. This is the policy here. It is hoped that all beats will accept this policy. I am glad to say that both banks were fly only here this year.

Letting The cottage is being let as a holiday cottage, inclusive of two rods fishing for salmon on the Upper Inverbrough beat of the River Findhorn. Because of the fishing the cottage is let from Sunday to Sunday; there being no Sunday fishing. Unless otherwise arranged the cottage is available to the incoming tenant from 3pm on the Sunday on which the let commences. The outgoing tenant is asked to vacate the cottage by 10am on the Sunday on which the let terminates to give us time to supply fresh linen and for any checking and cleaning.

Broadway Villa at Rolling Hills is a luxurious 4-bedroom vacation home situated in the closest private accommodation to Disney World and other major Disney attractions.

The villa is located within a prestigious residential area just off the ’Golden Corridor’ on Highway 192 and is within walking distance of Formosa Gardens Village, which offers a complete array of retail stores, supermarkets and restaurants, as well as a walk-in clinic and tourist information centre

Other major attractions including Universal Studios, Sea World and International Drive are also nearby.

Within an hour’s drive are the East and West coasts of Florida offering the spectacular sights and sounds of Cape Kennedy, Daytona Beach and Tampa.

The villa has its own private, screened pool surrounded by a large decking area complete with quality pool furniture and overlooking orange groves and a lake. The fully air-conditioned luxury furnished accommodation consists of an open plan vaulted ceiling lounge. A multi channel cable television, coupled with a hi-fi and CD provide central entertainment. A ceiling fan provides additional comfort. The lounge exits via the child alarmed patio doors – which prevent unattended children straying outside - onto the large enclosed pool area and deck. The fully equipped, modern gourmet kitchen has a four-ring hob, oven, grill, microwave, dishwasher, waste disposal unit, and a large fridge-freezer with icemaker. It also includes a toaster and coffee maker. There is also a plentiful supply of cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils and glasses for both indoor and outdoor use. A breakfast area is situated in the adjacent nook for informal dining. Leading off the kitchen is the utility room, which includes a washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board.

The formal dining area is open plan, light and relaxing, and seats 8 adults in comfort. The telephones provide free local calls and offer a credit card facility for long distance calls, and there is also an answerphone.

The 4 bedrooms are spacious, light and airy and all are fitted with ceiling fans and have ample wardrobe space. The master bedroom, with its king size bed, separate TV and walk-in closet also boasts a large sumptuous en-suite bathroom having twin vanity units, a large walk-in shower and large Roman corner bath. Adjoining this is bedroom 4 with two single beds. Bedroom 2 has a queen-sized bed and separate TV, and bedroom 3 again has two single beds. These latter bedrooms share the adjoining second fully fitted bathroom. There is also a crib available for our younger guests.

The rear of the property overlooks a small natural pond, which itself is bounded by an open conservation area, where it is still possible to be at peace with the world. Also at the rear of the villa is the large fully screened and private extended deck area and covered porch, which surround the ample swimming pool, which can be heated, and has submerged lighting. The terrace is furnished with comfortable, padded poolside chairs, table and loungers, and also provides a perfect al fresco setting for meals.

A local management company look after the house and are only a phone call away whenever needed.
