Since 2007, Sheriff Greg Munks has leveraged his 30 years of experience toward the management of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. An experienced leader, Greg Munks sets the example of an accomplished law enforcement professional through his keen understanding of investigations, fiscal management, patrol, bomb detection and disposal, personnel and training, search and rescue, narcotics enforcement, internal affairs, and records management. In his role as Sheriff, Greg Munks oversees the management of a $100 million budget, in addition to the duties carried out by the Sheriff’s Office.
Prior to his election to the office of Sheriff, Greg Munks held several leadership roles in the law enforcement field. Serving for 14 years in the Office of Undersheriff, Greg Munks was particularly ready to take on the role of Sheriff. Throughout his career, Sheriff Greg Munks has been involved in numerous public initiatives that have rendered him a trusted figure community-wide. One of Greg Munks’ most popular creations was the Community Alliance to Rebuild Our Neighborhood (CARON) Project, which he helped develop to combat gang violence in the North Fair Oaks area. Sheriff Greg Munks was also behind the development of the Palo Alto Police Bicycle Patrol Program and the Palo Alto Police Department’s Domestic Violence Response Policy.
Possessing a genuine enthusiasm for contributing to community endeavors in as many ways as possible, Sheriff Greg Munks has lent a hand to organizations such as the San Mateo County Service League, Youth and Family Enrichment Services, and the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center. Currently, Greg Munks serves on the Board of the National Center for Equine Facilitated Therapy (NCEFT).
Greg Munks possess two academic degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration.
